Come Sail Away

If you traveled at all in 2008, chances are you noticed that pesky fuel surcharge tacked onto your bill. But with falling gas prices – one of the few good things in today’s unsteady economy – is this charge still necessary? Airlines don’t seem to be revising their policies anytime soon, but cruise lines are. Most major lines – Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Disney and Carnival, to name a few – have recently dropped fuel surcharges on all new bookings. A few are even offering onboard credits of the surcharge as a refund to passengers who have already paid. That’s pretty good news for lovebirds planning a wedding at sea or honeymoon cruise in 2009.
