Wedding of the Week - Elizabeth and Jed

Elizabeth and Jed Katzel traveled to the Dominican Republic to hold their big day at the Casa Grande Beach Hotel in Las Terrenas, where Jed had proposed a year earlier. They loved the intimate feel of the hotel, especially how welcoming the couple who owned the property had been on their previous visit. The NYC couple wanted family and friends to be included in their wedding as much as possible. Elizabeth’s gown was designed by her sister, Stephanie Ward, who is a fashion designer and founder of Punk Rock Bride. Jed, decked out in sunglasses and flip flops, was accompanied by both of his parents as he walked down the aisle. A few of their guests stood up and made speeches throughout the ceremony. A friend of the family, who was also fluent in Spanish, helped out by planning the entire wedding and communicating with the vendors.

I absolutely love the artistic feel of the wedding photos. The couple’s photographer, Karin von Voigtlander, did an amazing job of finding unique settings and backdrops to capture the essence of both the destination and the couple’s personality.

The wedding cake in the last two photos above is probably one of the most original I have ever seen. It’s made in traditional French style, the specialty of the restaurant at Casa Grande Beach Hotel. What a cool way to integrate a French theme into your ceremony.
